PREPARING FOR CLAT: HERE’S EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO KNOW

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is the Centralized national level entrance exam for promoting undergraduates (UG’s) and postgraduates (PG’s) for law programmes and degrees. It is conducted for admission to 22 National Law Universities all around the nation. CLAT is managed by the Consortium of National Law Universities.

Registrations for CLAT can be done till May 15, 2021 and the exam will be held and conducted on 13th June 2021.

As consortium is one of the key factors for CLAT 2021, it is really important to understand the basics about the history of the same.

The Consortium of National Law Universities was built and constituted on 19th August, 2017 with the focus of upgrading and improving the standard of legal education in the country and justice system through legal education with Prof. R. Venkata Rao, erstwhile Vice-Chancellor, NLSIU as President and Prof. Faizan Mustafa, Vice-Chancellor, NALSAR, as Vice-President.

The Consortium aims to facilitate and upgrade better coordination amongst National Law Schools to achieve enhanced and high standards of legal education in the country. Twenty-two National Law Universities have joined the Consortium as of now as the founder members.

How to Prepare for CLAT 2021?

One of the most important question every candidate asks. A good score in CLAT provides you a good Law College. Hence, scoring well is very important. Preparation tips

• Candidate should make their own time table keeping the syllabus in mind.
• Make sure that the candidate covers every topic, presentation and concept.
• Mock tests and practice tests are important for the examination.
• Analysing the occurred tests, understanding the weak areas, and then working towards them is very important.
• Assumptions can result in the deduction of 0.25 if incorrect. Reduce them as much as possible.

Mathematics

Practice! Practice! and practice! The more you practice the more skills you develop for the subject. Revise as much as you can to build accuracy and perfection. As it is required in a time-bound exam with negative marking. The faster you are, the more time you save to answer other questions. The more perfect you are, the more marks you make.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs

Awareness is a key factor in this section. start reading newspapers and watch daily news. Basic knowledge of History, Geography and Science is of great advantage. The Hindu will be a good asset.

Legal Reasoning

• Try to concentrate more on the legal issues from the last 10 months and read about them.
• Focus on landmark judgments and important cases from the last year.
• Learn about the advanced and new amendments and enactments done by the parliament along with contemporary issues like LGBTQ rights or the death penalty which was a part of the latest news
• If you are running out of time and cannot invest the last three-four minutes left in reading the entire passage, your prior basic Understanding of the legal issue will be of great help. It may guide you with answering a couple of questions even without reading the entire passage word wise.

English Language

• Reading is necessary for this.
• Learning new words will be beneficial.
• Practicing comprehension passages will increase your speed.
• Practise the previous year’s question papers.
• Go for online mock tests and analyse your performance.

General Instructions

• The CLAT 2021 examination will be held in OFFLINE mode
• The applications are submitted ONLINE only from website.
• The scheduled date of examination this year is 13th June 2021 from 2 PM to 4 PM (Subject to revision in case of necessity)
• Indian Nationals/NRIs/PIO/OCI can get admission in either of the UG programmes through CLAT 2021.
• For guidance related to the 22 NLUs, the candidate can go through to the e-brochure of the respective Institutions available in the Consortium website.
• Important news related to the details of intake, reservation policies and the courses offered along with the fee structures of various participating National Law Universities is now available in the Information Brochure on the website too which can be used anytime by the participating NLUs. The applicants are, therefore, suggested to thoroughly go through the rules, policies and the fee structure of the involving NLUs before applying for the application form for UG courses.
• Information provided in the e-Brochure regarding the intake, reservation policy, fee, courses offered and the subjects taught at various levels including the areas of specialization, etc., has been specified very briefly. For detailed guidance regarding the same, the candidates may refer to the data available at the websites of the participating NLUs.
• Candidates are advised to visit CLAT 2021 website regularly for updates. The distribution of seats and the offer for admission under CLAT 2021 is provisional and will not go against any right of admission in favour of a candidate.

Documents to be uploaded with the Online Application.

1. Front facing passport size recent photograph with plain background
2. Signature of the candidate
3. Category certificate if you are applying under SC/ST/OBC
4. Relevant certificate issued by competent authority if you are applying if candidate is P.W.D
5. Relevant certificate issued by competent authority if you are coming under BPL category

NOTE:

• The original certificates/documents issued by the competent authority as specified in the brochure are to be submitted to the allotted University in the form and manner as specified by the followed universities at the time of admission.
• The photograph and signature of the candidate need not be attested while submitting the Online Application Form.
• All documents/certificates should be uploaded in pdf format only.

Application Fee

• Application fees can be paid online only.
• Application fee for General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI candidates: Rs.4,000/-
• Application fee for SC/ST/BPL category candidates: Rs.3,500/-
• The cost of previous years' question papers is Rs.500/- (not included in the CLAT 2021 application fee of Rs.4,000/- or Rs.3,500/- as the case may be.)
• The candidates themselves will have to bear the bank transaction charges for remitting the fee online. The original bank transaction charges will be showed up in the payment gateway page after candidates decide the mode of payment.
• Application Fees is non-refundable.

Admit Card/Hall ticket

• The Admit Card/Hall ticket can be downloaded by the candidate by logging into his/her account. The exact date on which the hall tickets will be made available will be intimated on the website.
